This time-tested kitchen remedy combines the warming properties of ginger with the soothing qualities of raw honey. Fresh ginger contains gingerols and shogaols — compounds with powerful anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects that help fight respiratory infections.

Ingredients

  • Fresh ginger root1 piece

    About 1-inch piece, peeled and grated

  • Raw honey1 tbsp
  • Lemon juice1 tsp
  • Warm water1 cup

Preparation

Grate fresh ginger and squeeze out the juice (about 1 teaspoon). Mix ginger juice with raw honey. Take directly, or add to warm water with lemon. For sore throat: let the ginger-honey mixture coat your throat before swallowing. For cold relief: drink the warm ginger-honey-lemon water 2-3 times daily.

Dosage Guidance

Take the ginger-honey mixture 2-3 times daily during cold symptoms. As a preventive measure, 1 teaspoon of ginger juice with honey each morning during cold season.
